Avengers

Endgame

Film · 2019 · 181 minutes · Phase Three

Reeling from Thanos's Snap, which erased half of all life in the universe, the surviving Avengers hunt down and kill Thanos, only to find he has already destroyed the Infinity Stones. Five years later, Scott Lang's return from the Quantum Realm gives Tony Stark and Bruce Banner a path to viable time travel, and the team splits into pairs to retrieve past versions of the six Infinity Stones without disrupting their own timeline. Their successful "time heist" lets Hulk use a new Gauntlet to reverse the Snap, but Thanos's alternate-timeline army invades the present, leading to a massive final battle in which Tony Stark sacrifices himself to destroy Thanos and his forces for good.

Follows on from

  • Avengers: Infinity War
direct-sequel — Picks up immediately after Thanos's Snap and follows the surviving Avengers' response to it.
  • Ant-Man and the Wasp
crossover — Scott Lang's escape from the Quantum Realm, seeded in that film's post-credits scene, is the plot device that gives the Avengers the means for time travel — the mechanism the entire time-heist plan depends on.
  • Captain Marvel
crossover · optional — Carol Danvers, introduced in Captain Marvel, arrives in response to Nick Fury's page from that film's post-credits scene and joins the final battle.
  • Guardians of the Galaxy
crossover · optional — During the time heist, War Machine and Nebula travel to an alternate 2014 Morag to ambush Star-Lord and steal the Power Stone, revisiting that film's opening setting and beat.
  • Thor: The Dark World
crossover · optional — Thor and Rocket travel to an alternate 2013 Asgard on the day of the Dark Elf attack, where Rocket steals the Reality Stone from Jane Foster/the Aether.
  • The Avengers
crossover · optional — The time heist's central sequence has Cap, Tony, Hulk, and Ant-Man infiltrate Stark Tower during the Battle of New York to steal the Mind and Space Stones; Loki's escape with the Tesseract during this scene creates the alternate 2012 timeline.
  • Captain America: The First Avenger
crossover · optional — Steve and Tony's 1970 Camp Lehigh heist has Steve secretly watch Peggy Carter at work, directly paying off the unresolved Steve/Peggy romance established in that film — the emotional setup for Steve's final choice to return and live out that relationship.

direct-sequel — Set in the weeks after Avengers: Endgame; Wanda's grief over Vision, who remained dead after the final battle, is the emotional catalyst for the Westview Hex.
  • WandaVision
direct-sequel — Picks up after Vision's death in Infinity War (permanent, since Endgame's undone snap victims but not Vision) and after the epilogue of Endgame, following Wanda as she grieves and processes the loss of both Vision and, implicitly, the world she fought to save.
  • We Interrupt This Program — S01E04
direct-sequel — Monica Rambeau's return from the five-year Blip and her mother Maria's death during that time, referenced directly in this episode, stem from the Blip and its undoing depicted in Avengers: Endgame.

  • New World Order — S01E01
direct-sequel — Picks up Sam Wilson's story directly from the closing scene of Avengers: Endgame, where Steve Rogers passed him the shield; this episode opens with Sam grappling with his choice to instead hand it over to the government.

  • Loki: Season One
timeline-branch — The alternate 2012 Loki's escape with the Tesseract during Endgame's botched time heist creates the divergent timeline branch that the TVA forms to police, and that the season's entire plot revolves around.
  • Glorious Purpose — S01E01
timeline-branch — This variant of Loki splits off from the main timeline at the exact moment he grabs the Tesseract and escapes during the Avengers' 2012 time heist depicted in Endgame, which is what triggers his capture by the TVA.
  • Black Widow
cameo-only · optional — The mid-credits scene takes place after Natasha's death in Endgame, showing Yelena mourning at her grave before being given a new assignment.
  • Eternals
side-story · optional — Set in the present day after the Blip; the film's news-broadcast exposition establishes that the Blip's sudden restoration of Earth's population pushed humanity past the threshold needed for the dormant Celestial Tiamut to awaken, making the Blip the causal trigger for the Emergence at the heart of Eternals' plot rather than something the audience needs to have seen.
  • Hawkeye: Season One
side-story — Clint's history as Ronin during the Blip and Natasha's sacrifice to secure the Soul Stone in Endgame directly motivate his guilt, his family's Christmas reunion, and Yelena's vendetta against him.

  • Thor: Love and Thunder
side-story · optional — Picks up Thor's arc as a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, the team-up he joined at the end of Endgame.
  • A Normal Amount of Rage — S01E01

  • She-Hulk: Attorney at Law: Season One
side-story — Bruce Banner appears already merged into his 'Smart Hulk' form, the resolution of his arc across Endgame, which this season's status quo for the Hulk side of the story builds on.
  • The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special
direct-sequel — Quill's low mood comes from Gamora's death and her replacement by a 2014 variant who does not know him, the situation set up by Endgame.

cameo-only · optional — Scott's opening status as a celebrated memoirist and public figure follows on from his role in the Avengers' final battle against Thanos in Endgame.
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
crossover — This film's Gamora is the alternate-timeline 2014 variant who arrived in the present via the Avengers' time heist in Endgame, since the original Gamora died in Infinity War; Vol. 3's Gamora subplot depends on that Endgame plot point.
  • Secret Invasion
cameo-only · optional — The Harvest, the vial of superhuman DNA central to Gravik's plan to create Super-Skrulls, is secretly collected from Avengers and other heroes who bled at the Battle of Earth.
  • Secret Invasion: Season One

  • What If... the Hulk Fought the Mech Avengers? — S03E01
timeline-branch — Diverges from the mainline timeline shortly after Avengers: Endgame's ending, imagining Bruce Banner trying to purge the Hulk from himself rather than living on as the merged "Professor Hulk" persona he settles into after the Blip.
  • Avengers: Doomsday
direct-sequel — The first Avengers team-up since Endgame, bringing back Steve Rogers and Thor alongside the heroes who inherited their mantles.
