Ant-Man and the Wasp

Film · 2018 · 118 minutes · Phase Three

Two years after the events of Captain America: Civil War, Scott Lang is under house arrest for his role in the Avengers' airport battle in Germany, trying to balance fatherhood with the fallout of becoming a fugitive. Hank Pym and Hope van Dyne, now going by the Wasp, pull him back in for an urgent mission that requires him to put on the suit again to help them recover Janet van Dyne, who has been trapped in the quantum realm for three decades. The trio must evade a black-market dealer and a mysterious, phasing adversary called Ghost while racing to complete a device that can safely retrieve Janet before their window closes.

Follows on from

  • Ant-Man
direct-sequel — Picks up Scott Lang, Hank Pym, and Hope van Dyne's story directly, with Hope now suiting up as the Wasp following the first film's ending.
  • Captain America: Civil War
side-story — Set two years after Civil War and driven by its consequences — Scott is under house arrest for joining Cap's side in the airport battle, and this status quo shapes the entire plot.

Leads to

  • Avengers: Endgame
crossover — Scott Lang's escape from the Quantum Realm, seeded in that film's post-credits scene, is the plot device that gives the Avengers the means for time travel — the mechanism the entire time-heist plan depends on.
  • What If... Zombies?! — S01E05
timeline-branch — Diverges from the moment Hank Pym rescues Janet van Dyne from the Quantum Realm — here she returns infected with a zombifying quantum virus instead of safely restored.
  • Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
direct-sequel — Janet's hidden history in the Quantum Realm and the family's return there follows directly from her decades-long exile and the ending of Ant-Man and the Wasp, when Hank, Hope, and Janet entered the realm.
