What If...?
Season Three
TV · 2024 · Phase Five · alternate
The third and final season of the animated anthology series continues the Watcher's arc as he weighs further interventions across the multiverse. Across eight episodes it imagines new divergent turns for MCU characters and events, including a timeline where Bruce Banner's botched self-cure spawns a monstrous "Apex Hulk," forcing Sam Wilson's Captain America to lead a team of "Mech Avengers" against it; a 1930s Hollywood tale in which Agatha Harkness schemes to steal the power of the Celestial Tiamut and is ultimately talked down by the Eternal Kingo; and a showdown between Red Guardian and the Winter Soldier. Other episodes send Howard the Duck to his own wedding, explore a timeline where the Emergence destroys the Earth, and reimagine the Avengers in the Old West of 1872. The season builds to a connected two-episode finale, released on consecutive days, in which the Watcher himself disappears and a group of variants must confront the consequences across the multiverse. It closes out the series' three-season, format-defining run of "what if" stories without a further season currently planned.
