Having survived the Temporal Loom's meltdown, Loki finds the TVA abandoned and himself uncontrollably slipping through time and space. He discovers his friends have been reset into ordinary lives on branched timelines: Mobius is a jet ski salesman in 2022 Cleveland, Hunter B-15 is a physician in 2012 New York, Casey is a prisoner in 1962 Alcatraz, and Ouroboros is a struggling science-fiction writer and physicist in 1994 Pasadena. Loki enlists Ouroboros to help build a new TemPad and, timeline by timeline, reassembles the group, eventually convincing a reluctant Sylvie to help as the branches begin collapsing. By learning to anchor his time-slips to people rather than events, Loki regains control and rewrites his way back to the moment before the Loom's explosion.
