Genius inventor Riri Williams returns to her hometown of Chicago after being expelled from MIT, still reeling from the grief and trauma of losing her stepfather and best friend Natalie. Determined to keep building her own suit of armor, she falls in with a crew of thieves led by the enigmatic Parker Robbins, whose mysterious hooded cloak grants him strange powers. As Riri's tech and Parker's magic-fueled ambitions become entangled, she creates N.A.T.A.L.I.E., an AI modeled on her late friend, to help with her work. The season builds toward the revelation that Parker's cloak was a gift from the demonic Mephisto, culminating in a confrontation between Riri and a fully corrupted Parker in which she wrests the hood away from him. In the finale, Mephisto approaches Riri directly with a tempting, dangerous bargain: bring Natalie back to life in exchange for her allegiance.
