After being expelled from MIT for selling her engineering work to other students, Riri Williams steals the armored suit she built there and flies it home to Chicago with her AI assistant TRVOR — but MIT remotely locks her out mid-flight, and the suit crash-lands in Bronzeville, forcing her to walk the rest of the way home. Reuniting with her mother, Ronnie, Riri struggles to explain why she left school, all while grieving her late best friend Natalie and stepfather figure Gary, both killed years earlier in a drive-by shooting she witnessed. Meanwhile in Chicago, small-time crook Parker "The Hood" Robbins assembles a crew for a heist and fires his tech specialist after a botched job, setting up Riri's path toward that criminal underworld. The episode ends with a shocking twist: Riri's AI experiments accidentally produce a working holographic recreation of her dead friend Natalie.
