After John Walker publicly kills a Flag Smasher with the shield, Sam and Bucky track him down, take the shield back, and break his arm; Walker receives a dishonorable discharge and is approached by the mysterious Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Sam visits Isaiah Bradley in Baltimore and learns of his brutal treatment as an experimented-on Black super soldier, deepening Sam's doubts about becoming Captain America, before he and Bucky return to Louisiana to repair the family boat. The Flag Smashers, aided by a released Batroc, prepare to strike a Global Repatriation Council conference in New York, prompting Sam to open the Wakandan briefcase; a mid-credits scene shows Walker forging a new shield from scrap metal and his Medal of Honor.
