Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Season 2

TV · 2014 · Phase Two

With S.H.I.E.L.D. in ruins after HYDRA's exposure, Phil Coulson runs what is left of it as an off-the-books operation, hunting HYDRA and the de-aged Nazi-era leader Daniel Whitehall in a race for an alien artifact known as the Obelisk, which Skye's father Cal is also chasing. Coulson kills Whitehall, but in a hidden Kree city the Obelisk transforms Skye and Raina, and Skye's new earthquake powers bring down the temple and kill Agent Triplett, revealing that the Kree once experimented on humans to create the Inhumans. Grant Ward walks away to rebuild HYDRA on his own, while a rival S.H.I.E.L.D. faction under Robert Gonzales challenges Coulson's leadership. Skye is taken to Afterlife, a hidden Inhuman refuge, where she meets her mother Jiaying, and after Coulson's helicarrier helps evacuate Sokovia the two S.H.I.E.L.D. factions reunite behind him. Jiaying's plan to spread Terrigen worldwide leads to open war; Coulson loses his hand stopping a Terrigen crystal, Cal kills Jiaying when he sees what she has become, and S.H.I.E.L.D. wipes his memory to give him a new life. Skye embraces her birth name, Daisy Johnson, and sets out to recruit a team of gifted people, while the season ends with Simmons swallowed by the alien Monolith.
