Matt Murdock, a lawyer who lost his sight as a boy but gained heightened senses, spends his nights as a masked vigilante protecting Hell's Kitchen while his law practice with Foggy Nelson and Karen Page defends ordinary locals. In season one he takes on crime lord Wilson Fisk, who is using the rebuilding of the neighbourhood after the Battle of New York as cover for his empire, and the fight ends with Fisk jailed and Matt adopting his red Daredevil costume. Season two pits him against the gun-wielding Frank Castle, the Punisher, and against Elektra, his former lover, who is tied to the ninja army known as the Hand; the fallout leaves Elektra dead and Matt's partnership with Foggy strained. Season three, set after the Defenders crisis, finds a broken Matt recovering and questioning his faith while Fisk manipulates the FBI to win his freedom and a deranged Benjamin Poindexter is turned into a Daredevil-imitating killer. Matt and his friends ultimately bring Fisk down again, reconcile their friendship, and Matt returns to the streets in his red suit.
