Lowak — S01E02

TV · 2024 · 39 minutes · Phase Five

A flashback to 1200 AD shows the Choctaw facing a neighboring tribe in a high-stakes stickball (Ishtaboli) match, with banishment from the region on the line for whichever side loses; when the Choctaw fall behind, a woman named Lowak calls on the supernatural power of the spirit Chafa to win the game for her people. In the present, Maya Lopez reluctantly turns to her estranged family for help taking down Wilson Fisk's operation, plotting to plant a bomb aboard a train hauling a weapons shipment for Fisk. When her prosthetic leg becomes trapped in a rail coupling as the train picks up speed, Maya is struck by a vision of her ancestors and her hands begin to glow with the same power Lowak once wielded, freeing her just in time. The shipment is delivered on to one of Fisk's New York armouries, where Zane's men trigger Maya's hidden bomb, destroying the facility. The episode establishes that Maya's ancestral bloodline carries a literal supernatural inheritance that is starting to awaken in her. She returns home shaken by the vision, unsure what it means but aware her family's history runs deeper than she knew.
