As Mayor Fisk looks to let Luca's Tracksuit Mafia and Viktor's gang destroy each other in a brewing turf war, Vanessa secretly works around him, sending Buck Cashman to broker a $1.8 million restitution deal to keep the peace behind Fisk's back. At Hector Ayala's trial, witness Nicky Torres recants his testimony under police pressure, forcing Matt Murdock to reveal Ayala's secret identity as the vigilante White Tiger in open court. Murdock and Kirsten McDuffie salvage the case using records of Ayala's heroic acts and secure an acquittal, but Fisk publicly denounces the verdict and doubles down on his anti-vigilante agenda. Ignoring Murdock's warning to stay out of costume, Ayala goes out on patrol one more time and is shot dead by a corrupt cop bearing the Punisher's skull symbol, escalating the season's central conflict between law, vigilantism, and Fisk's authority.
