In the series finale, flashbacks reveal Agatha Harkness's tragic history with Death (Rio Vidal): the birth and eventual loss of her son Nicholas Scratch, and the origin of "The Ballad of the Witches' Road" as a con she used to drain witches of their power for centuries. In the present, Billy Maximoff realizes he unknowingly conjured the Witches' Road himself with his reality-warping magic, echoing how his mother Wanda created the Hex, and that his desperate wish caused the deaths of coven members along the way. When Rio comes to collect Billy, Agatha sacrifices herself to protect him, and Death, recognizing how much Agatha has changed, spares her and departs, promising they will meet again when Agatha's time truly comes. Billy seals the Road behind a memorial to the fallen, and Agatha lingers on as a spectral presence rather than dying for good. The episode closes with Agatha and Billy resolving to search for his missing twin brother, Tommy, setting up Billy's next chapter.
