Fox's X-Men Universe

Deadpool 2

Film · 2018 · 119 minutes · Deadpool

After a job gone wrong leaves him devastated by personal loss, Wade Wilson (Deadpool) tries to reform himself but is drawn back into action when he encounters Russell, a troubled young mutant living at an orphanage that mistreats him. Cable, a cybernetic soldier from a devastated future, arrives to kill Russell before he can grow into a mass murderer, forcing Deadpool to intervene. To protect the boy, Deadpool assembles a ragtag superhero team, X-Force, most of whom are killed almost immediately, leaving him to rely mainly on the lucky mutant Domino. The film builds to a confrontation in which Deadpool must convince both Cable and Russell to change course, ultimately sacrificing himself to save Russell before being revived. A time-traveling epilogue lets Deadpool undo earlier tragedies and settle a few scores, including a comedic detour to erase an infamous earlier screen version of himself.

Follows on from

  • Deadpool
direct-sequel — Continues directly from the first film: Wade Wilson, now an established mercenary/vigilante with Vanessa, Colossus, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead all returning, picks up his story after the events of Deadpool.
  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine
cameo-only · optional — In the time-travel epilogue, Deadpool jumps back to the set/scene of X-Men Origins: Wolverine and kills the mouth-sewn-shut 'Weapon XI' version of himself from that film as a meta joke fixing its widely-mocked take on the character; it's a gag reference, not a plot dependency.

  • Deadpool & Wolverine
direct-sequel — Continues Wade Wilson's story from Deadpool 2 — same Wade, same friends (Vanessa, Dopinder, Peter, Blind Al), and the time-travel device he used at the end of that film is how the TVA finds him.
