Dark Phoenix
Film · 2019 · 114 minutes · First Class Era
During a space rescue mission in 1992, Jean Grey absorbs a mysterious cosmic force that amplifies her psychic and telekinetic powers far beyond her control. The surge also shatters the mental blocks Professor Xavier placed years earlier to suppress her memory of accidentally causing her mother's death, plunging her into destructive rage and grief. As Jean's instability threatens those closest to her, a shape-shifting alien race called the D'Bari, led by Vuk, arrives on Earth seeking to harness the Phoenix Force for their own ends. The X-Men fracture over how to help Jean, and in a violent telekinetic outburst she accidentally kills Mystique/Raven, driving a wedge between Xavier's school and Magneto's mutant sanctuary as both are pulled into open conflict over Jean's fate. Vuk manipulates Jean and abducts her to complete the D'Bari's plan to consume the Phoenix Force, forcing the X-Men and Magneto's mutants to unite in a battle aboard a train to stop her. Jean ultimately masters the Phoenix Force enough to turn it against Vuk and the D'Bari, sacrificing herself in the process and apparently dying, though an epilogue implies her essence survives within the cosmic force.
