On the anniversary of V-E Day, the SSR uncovers Johann Fennhoff's plan to unleash Howard Stark's "Midnight Oil" gas, a berserker-rage compound with a dark wartime history, on the crowds gathered in Times Square. When Dottie Underwood sabotages the SSR's plan to use Stark as bait, Fennhoff kidnaps and hypnotizes him into nearly releasing the toxin himself. Daniel Sousa captures Fennhoff while Peggy Carter fights off Underwood and stops Stark, averting the massacre. In the closing scene Peggy lets go of a memento of Steve Rogers, while imprisoned Fennhoff meets Arnim Zola and the two discuss combining their mind-control research.
