Peter Parker, an orphaned teenager raised by his Uncle Ben and Aunt May, discovers a briefcase left behind by his father, biologist Richard Parker, and begins investigating his parents' disappearance. This leads him to Oscorp, where he is bitten by a genetically engineered spider and gains superhuman abilities. After Uncle Ben is killed by a mugger Peter failed to stop, he begins using his powers to fight crime as a masked vigilante while pursuing his first romance with classmate Gwen Stacy. Meanwhile, Oscorp scientist Dr. Curt Connors, a colleague of Peter's father, uses an experimental cross-species serum to regenerate his missing arm, transforming himself into the monstrous Lizard and threatening to convert all of New York's population into reptilian hybrids. Peter must reconcile his personal guilt and growing feelings for Gwen with the responsibility of stopping Connors as Spider-Man.
