Blade
Film · 1998 · 120 minutes · Blade Trilogy
In 1967, a pregnant woman is bitten by a vampire during an attack; she dies but her child survives, born with a vampire's enhanced strength, speed, and healing while retaining immunity to most vampire weaknesses. Thirty years later, that child, Eric Brooks, has become Blade, a formidable vampire hunter working alongside his mentor Abraham Whistler to wipe out the vampire underworld. Blade clashes with Deacon Frost, an ambitious "turned" vampire scorned by the vampire elite, who is gathering blood and ancient texts to perform a ritual that would awaken the vampire blood god La Magra and grant him god-like power. After hematologist Dr. Karen Jenson is attacked and infected, she joins Blade and Whistler, helping develop a cure for vampirism and a serum to control Blade's own hunger. The trio uncovers Frost's plan and races to stop the ritual before he can bring about an age of vampire dominance. Blade ultimately defeats Frost, destroying his ritual and cementing his role as humanity's guardian against the vampire world.
