Film · 2013 · 130 minutes · Phase Two

Months after the Battle of New York, Tony Stark is suffering panic attacks and anxiety, throwing himself into building an array of Iron Man suits while his relationship with Pepper Potts frays. When the terrorist known as the Mandarin orchestrates a string of bombings and an attack on Stark's Malibu mansion, a suit-less Tony must improvise his way to Tennessee to investigate, uncovering a conspiracy involving the genetically engineered Extremis serum and disgraced scientist Aldrich Killian. In the climax Pepper, secretly dosed with Extremis and now enhanced, saves Tony and kills Killian herself, after which Tony has the shrapnel lodged near his heart since his original Afghanistan captivity surgically removed.
